UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY
Donita L. Youtsey, Altamont, was among the 246 graduates of the University of Saint Mary. The historic class becomes the second to graduate from the new era of education at the University of Saint Mary. Graduates have received degrees at Saint Mary since 1923, when the school was known as Saint Mary College. Saint Mary College expanded to meet the demands of the 21st century student, becoming the University of Saint Mary in July 2003.
The 2005 commencement ceremony was the first-ever held in McGilley Field House. Traditionally commencement has been housed in Ryan Sports Center. Completed in the summer of 2004, McGilley Field House’s state-of-the-art construction offers better acoustics and greater seating capacity (approximately eight to 10 more guests per graduate) than Ryan Sports Center.
Of the 246 2004-2005 degree candidates, 98 received bachelor’s degrees and 148 received master’s degrees.
Donita L. Youtsey, Delta Epsilon Sigma, graduated Magna Cum Laude, Bachelor of Science.
She was also among the 108 students named to the University of Saint Mary Spring 2005 Dean’s List. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must post a 3.5 grade point average or better for the entire semester.
Vice President and Academic Dean, Sandra Van Hoose, Ph.D., rewards students for their hard work each semester. She said it’s her privilege and honor to recognize this group in particular. “The dedication and effort these students put forth is just amazing,” she said. “They earned the right to be on the Dean’s List.”
With seven more students on the list for the spring than in the fall, Van Hoose also hopes more and more students will aspire to be like their friends and peers.
