A memorial service for Dr. James A. Olson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Lake Viking Church, near Gallatin. Inurnment will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Cemetery, near Livonia. Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Memorials may be made to the Lake Viking Lion’s Club.
Dr. James A. Olson, 76, Lake Viking, Gallatin, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at his home.
Dr. Olson was born May 21, 1929, to William and Della (Racey) Olson in Kewaunee, Wis. He graduated from high school in Moline, Ill., then attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. He went on to receive his medical degree in 1959 from Kirksville School of Osteopathic Medicine.
In March of 1958 he married Virginia Harris of Lancaster. The couple moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where Dr. Olson completed his medical internship. In 1960, he set up his first medical practice in Watertown, Wis. In 1964, Dr. Olson and Virginia moved with their three children to Reeseville, Wis., where he continued in private practice. In 1976 Dr. Olson accepted a position as flight surgeon for the FAA and they moved to Kansas City, where they remained until he retired in 1993 to Lake Viking at Gallatin.
Dr. Olson was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia; a daughter, Janet; a grandson, Matthew; and a brother, William.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Olson, DeSoto, Kan.; and Jeffrey Olson, Olathe, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
