Six Daviess County athletes took their final bows on the basketball court Saturday night after competing in the 14th Annual Lions District 26F All-Star Basketball Classic in Maryville, and five did so as members of winning teams.

Gallatin’s Emily Gay and North Daviess’ Nicole Ray were members of the winning Purple team, which defeated their Gold team counterparts, 70-55, in the evening opener. Both 2005 grads finished with a pair of points. The Purple team was led by Maryville’s Kelli Dawson with 12 points and Tarkio’s Jessica Rolf with 11. Gold team efforts were led by Trenton’s Amber Vandevender and Savannah’s Caylee Miller, who both scored eight points.

Gallatin’s Kyle Hefley and Gilman City’s Kaleb Wilson each notched nine points in the Purple boys’ 107-84 victory over the Gold. Brandon Ray of Pattonsburg scored two points for the winners, who also received an 11-point effort from Jacob Carver of East Buchanan, and 10 points each from King City’s Chase Cook and Maysville’s Justin Pearl. Winston’s Cody Lang scored four points for the Gold team. East Buchanan’s Andrew Mead and Maryville’s Josh Wilmes each tallied 15 points for the Gold.
