Robert Bartlett, grandson of Lester and Joyce Bartlett of Gallatin, was injured about two weeks ago when a truck he was driving in Baghdad, Iraq, struck a land mine. One other soldier was killed and another lost both of his legs in the explosion.
Robert, 29, a sniper in the Army Special Forces, was nearly killed in the accident. He has lost his left eye, and his hands were also injured. His thumbs have been reattached to his hands. He was first sent to Germany where he stabilized and is now hospitalized in Washington D.C.
The T-shirt Lester is holding, “saving private bartlett,” was given to the Bartletts by some Arizona friends.
