County Commission

Following several joint meetings with several other counties over the past few months, the commission executed an ordinance for the formation of a regional jail district.

The commission met with the DeKalb County Commission in Maysville to execute a joint regional jail district agreement. By statute, the governing board of the Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail District comprises the presiding commissioners and the sheriffs of the two counties.

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission reporting progress on the bridge deck under construction near Jameson. Missouri Department of Transportation had contacted them to barricade a bridge in Marion Township on 115th Street.

Bills were audited and paid.

Ron Tarepin, KAW Fire Protection District, contacted the commission requesting assistance from the bridge crew to set two dry hydrants in that district. Granted.

Deanna Lewis, Jack Moody, Mary Ann Shepard, Lavena Lowrey, and Judy Horton, representative from the Gallatin and Pattonsburg Senior Citizen Centers, met with the commission to discuss the services provided countywide for those citizens over the age of 60. They reported that the centers were being cut approximately $34,000, combined, by the state. Other avenues for funding were discussed, including the possibility of an ad-valorem property tax.

Randy Railsback, Jackie Soptic, Green Hills Regional Planning, and Tom Kober, Landmark Manufacturing, met with the commission concerning the establishment of a county enterprise zone under new legislation. They also discussed an action loan, a federal block grant, for job creation and expansion. The commission agreed to sponsor the project under the direction of the GHRPC.

These are the approved minutes of May 23, 2005. All commissioners were present.
