Gallatin’s own Brice Garnett battled the elements and over 100 other golfers last week and came away with a fourth place finish from the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship held in Savannah, Ga.

Garnett, a 2002 graduate of Gallatin High School and son of Tom and Nancy Garnett, finished one shot over par for the tournament after carding rounds of 66-75-71 and 73. His opening round 66 was best of the tournament, but rain delays robbed him of momentum and he came back with a 75 on Wednesday.

Dane Burkhart of South Carolina-Aiken shot a five-under par total of 279 to win the individual title. Nick Mason of Hawaii-Hilo finished second with a 280. Todd Dayton of Central Oklahoma edged Garnett for third with an even-par total of 284.

In his total of 285, Garnett recorded one eagle, twelve birdies and 45 pars.

Capping an outstanding season of honors and awards, Brice was named NCAA Division II First Team All-America.
