During the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held April 12, Superintendent Robert Bruner reported that areas of the school’s roof are in need of repair and that engineers have been to all the buildings to access the energy efficiency. The engineers are looking at ways to remove some of the unused furnaces and cut down on the monthly energy costs for the district.

Mr. Bruner suggested that the board will have to consider at some point in time the purchase of a new or used bus for back-up transportation in case of a break down.

Mr. Brown was asked to get estimates to fix the school door entrance.

During financial matters, bills and necessary transfers were approved. Superintendent Bruner informed the board that the accounting report will reflect changes in the beginning and ending balances. The district’s auditor will work on the accounting program in May to reflect these changes.

Mr. Bruner stated that the contract submitted for speech services for 2005-06 shows an increase over the current contract. The board voted to approve the contract for next school year.

Mr. Bruner recommended that the board set the per pupil tuition rate for new students at $7,038. Discussion followed. The issue was tabled until a later date.

Jeff Bowland and Alan McCrary will be allowed to co-coach the cross country team.

Secondary principal’s report included, prom, academic bowl, art I field trip, FFA convention; distinction dinner; Academic Awards Night; and graduation.

Spring Music Concert is at 7 p.m. on May 12; Athletic Awards Night is at 7 p.m. on May 17.

The elementary principal reported on Communication Arts field test; Drug Prevention Program by Harlem Globetrotter “Magic” was May 9.

Last day of preschool and preschool graduation is May 12; preschool screening and reading incentive party is May 17; preschool screening is May 18; End of Year Awards ceremony is May 20; last day of school is May 23; teacher’s workday is May 24; Summer school is May 31 to July 1.

The board approved continued participation in the Area Cooperative for Educational Support for the 2005-2006 school year.

The board agreed to move their meetings to 8 p.m. beginning May 18.

The board expressed their appreciation to resigning board member Richard Mooney for his service the past three years.

Next regular meeting will be at 8 p.m. on May 18.

During a meeting held April 12, the board was reorganized. The oath of office was administered to Craig Lambert, Eugene Thatcher and Ben de Jong and statements of oath were signed.

Craig Lambert was nominated as president by a vote of 5-1; Greg Brown as vice-president by a vote of 5-1; Pattie Hartley as treasurer; Cindy Mason as secretary. Secretary of the board is Tammy de Jong with a vote of 5-0 and 1 abstained.

All board members received approval to be authorized signers on the district’s checking account with primary signers being Lambert, Hartley and Mason.

The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held their regular meeting on April 12. Board members present were Brown, Hartley, Lambert, Mason, Mooney and Thatcher. Cornett was absent.
