Covel D. Searcy Elementary fifth grade art students took part in an annual design a cereal box contest.
This winter Covel D. Searcy Elementary fifth grade art students took part in an annual design a cereal box contest. Students were to imagine that they worked for the United Cereal Company. Their job was to design a cereal box that would introduce a new kind of cereal to the public.
Using the principles of design and elements of art as it is used in marketing they designed boxes that would persuade people to want to buy their new kind of cereal. Boxes were made from cereal boxes covered with colored paper. Cut paper and markers embellished the boxes. Each student also wrote a persuasive paragraph telling about their cereal. Boxes and paragraphs (without student names) were hung in the school cafeteria.
Fifth and sixth grade students as well as teachers voted on the boxes. Three prizes were awarded in each class. An overall grand prize winner was given as well.
This year’s winners were: grand prize winner, Michelle Monteith; Golden Division winners: 1st place – Rebecca Chadwick; 2nd place – Jordan Jeffers; 3rd place (tie) – Katie Asher; 3rd (tie) – Misha Stephenson; Limb Division winners: 1st place – Tory Wood; 2nd place – Lauren Taylor; 3rd place – Daniel Jones.
