The Experience Works Field Office in Chillicothe would like to get the word out to Daviess County about the valuable service it provides in helping qualified, older individuals train and re-enter the workforce. Experience Works is presently recruiting for new applicants in our area.

Experience Works, Inc., helps over 850 older workers in Missouri each year through its employment and training program, providing the opportunity for participants to earn money while learning skills necessary to prepare for a job.

In Missouri services are provided in 90 counties, including Daviess and surrounding counties. Experience Works is the nation’s oldest and largest provider of mature worker training and employment services. Established in 1965 as Green Thumb, Experience Works was renamed in 2002 to better reflect its mission of putting experience to work.

Experience Works assists people age 55 and over obtain job skills, training and employment. Qualified participants must be at least 55, be income eligible and unemployed.

Sherrie Wohlgemuth is field operations coordinator for 16 counties, including Daviess, and works with participants to provide training ane employment opportunities in a wide range of occupations from office skills to maintenance or the medical field.

Public agencies and nonprofit organizations, such as libraries, schools, local government and senior centers provide training sites for Experience Works participants. The training assignments offer participants the opportunity to learn new skills or upgrade existing skills while earning minimum wage and providing much-needed assistance for the training site.

“Our goals it to put experience to work,” said Experience Works Regional Director Janice Bramwell. “Many older workers need training and on-the-job experience to prepare to join the workforce in their own communities. With so many changes in technology, older workers often don’t have the skills to obtain a job or they may have been out of the workforce for a number of years. It’s not just the participants that benefit from Experience Works, but communities as well when people are able to contribute to their local economy.”
