Spring 2005 has been an eventful season for the Pattonsburg FFA Chapter. Contest teams have done well at local, district, and regional events. The season began with exciting news that the chapter had taken fourth place in the Four Seasons Fundraising contest and was awarded $300 in prize money.
From over 200 applications from sophomore FFA members from around the state Aleah Sperry was chosen to take part in the difficult interviewing process for the Missouri Agribusiness Academy. She interviewed March 29, in St. Joseph with other local nominees. Although she was not chosen as a member of the academy, being selected to interview was an enormous accomplishment in itself.
March 8 was the Hamilton Judging Day Contest. Three teams attend the contest horses, dairy cattle, and entomology. The experience was a learning one for the teams and an extremely successful one for the “bugs” team who placed third at the contest.
During NCMC Contest Day on March 22, Mike Foster, a member of the entomology team was high individual.
District FFA Contest proved successful for the FFA Knowledge Team as well. Members of the team placed fourth out of twenty-six other schools. This placing earned them a trip to State FFA Contest in Columbia. Members of the team were: Alyssa Lambert, Rhyse Curtis, and Kate Hangley.
During area FFA contest Whitney Sperry presented the FFA Creed and received a silver rating. Whitney Mason was elected as Area II FFA Reporter for the 2005-2006 school year.
At district CDE Contest in Maryville the entomology team qualified for state by placing eighth. The team members were Justin Coffey, Mike Foster, JJ Allee, and Katelyn Hulet. The Nursery and Landscape team placed sixth at their contest earning them an alternate’s position at state contest. The team members were Lisa West, Elisa Bowman, and Chelsey Lowrey.
This week during State FFA Convention three local members will be receiving their State FFA Degrees; Krista Hicks, Elisa Bowman, and Tracey Mason have earned this honor and will be on stage Friday night to be presented their degrees.
