During the regular meeting held March 9, the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen heard a request from Ed Shaw and Wendall Manion for the right to lease the land just south of Virgil Newman’s. The land is also known as the old dog pound. Mr. Shaw and Mr. Manion said they wanted to lease the land for a horse arena and possibly a cook shack, restrooms, and lights to the location, over a matter of a couple of years.

The council stated they are interested in working with them on the matter. The council would like it to be on a year-to-year lease agreement. The board motioned to tentatively approve the proposal and to get a more detailed description of how much land is in question and to make sure it all complies with the zoning requirements set forth for the city.

Brian and Jamee Teel asked the council if they could purchase a couple of lots in the city’s light commercial area to put up a daycare center. They showed the council their building plans and informed them there would be room for approximately 20 children with a fenced in playground area.

The board motioned to tentatively approve the purchase and to go over the plans with the Teels in more detail to know how many lots they will need and the council will discuss the amount of the lots in question.

Eddy Meador had received a bid from Vance Bros. for the price of chi-n-seal for the streets of Pattonsburg. The council will get with Eddy and see exactly what streets are in need of the chip-n-seal and then they will make their final discussion off the information obtained.

The issue of the stray dogs in town was brought up again. The council stated that they had looked into the price of hiring a dog catcher and the price of having the dogs picked up and held at a local kennel or veteran’s office, and at this time, there was nothing cost effective they could do, but hope that the citizens of Pattonsburg would contain their dogs as it is stated in Ordinance #81103.

The council agreed to send an arrangement of flowers or plants to Wanda Waggoner.

The council discussed the payment arrangement for the Missouri Rural Service Workers Compensation Insurance Trust that is due. The city will pay half of the bill and the water department will pay the other half, as had been done in the past.

The board passed a motion to change the city’s labor account from a NOW checking account to a regular checking account.

Bill were paid as presented.

The Water District contract was resubmitted for approval and the contract was approved.

The council went into closed session to discuss employee reviews.

The above are the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen held March 9. Those in attendance were Mayor Patrick McDonald, Leonard Barr, Weldon Hartley, Richard Mooney, Gene Walker, Wendall Manion, Ed Shaw, Brian and James Teel, Ed Meador and Dana Cameron.
