Three Gallatin Youth Wrestlers were crowned Missouri USA District 2 champions at Kearney on March 5 and seven wrestlers will advance to the Region A tournament in Excelsior Springs on March 12.
Matt Schieber provided the highlight of the day by pinning a defending state champion in the first period of the championship bout at 10 and under 80 pounds. Britton Wright pinned a Cameron wrestler both times in a best two of three format at 12 and under 135 pounds. Levi Michener pinned all three of his opponents en-route to a championship at 12 and under 85 pounds.
Other wrestlers advancing to the regional tournament are: Bryton Bowles – 3rd place, Robert Rhoades – 4th place, Brandon Ness – 5th place, and Chris Buckler – 5th place.
The top six wrestlers from District 2 meet the top six wrestlers from District 1 at the regional tournament, with the top four earning the right to advance to the Missouri USA State Tournament, to be held in the Hearnes Center in Columbia on March 25-26.
