Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. This year, more than 3,000 people in Missouri will be diagnosed with the disease.

Because early detection is the best weapon to fight the disease, the Cancer Center, GI Center, and Husam Barakat, MD, Heartland Gastroenterology at Heartland Regional Medical Center, are sponsoring this free screening.

You should participate in a colorectal screening if:

! You are age 50 or older and have not been tested within the past year.

! You are younger than 50 and have a family history.

For your free colorectal home test kit, please call (816) 271-4098 or (800) 447-2919. The free screening kit offer ends March 20, 2005. Your screening results will be available approximately two weeks after the kit is returned.

Or, you may also contact one of these participating facilities to get a free test kit: Clinton County Health Department, Harrison County Community Hospital, Hedrick Medical Center, St. Joseph Wal–Mart Pharmacy, or Wright Memorial Hospital

Kits should be returned by April 30, 2005.
