Amy Wood and Jennifer Shaffer of the Daviess County Library attended the 2005 Library Skills Winter Institute held at Columbia on Feb. 15-18.
Amy received instruction and training in basic library skills in which a wide variety of topics were covered including the statutes governing Missouri Public Libraries, customer service, senior services, and outreach.
Jennifer received advanced instruction in collection development taught by Belinda Boon, formerly of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
“We want our library to be the best that it can be,” said Jennifer. “Winter Institute helps to make that possible.”
Amy agreed, stating, “After attending Winter Institute, I have a greater appreciation for our county library and the support from our community. I have also discovered, there is a lot more to a library than just books.”
Winter Institute was sponsored by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Missouri Office of the Secretary of State. Winter Institute was paid for by grant funds from the Library Services and Technology Act.
