The Gallatin FCCLA Chapter has been working hard to raise money for the new $11 million Ronald McDonald House being built in Kansas City across the street from Children’s Mercy Hospital. Chapter members have participated in several projects throughout the school year.

In November, the community service committee consisting of Brittney Hixson, Melissa Craig, Alyssa Strein, Kara Kloepping and Allie Michener as chairs, went to Covel D. Searcy Elementary School to give presentations to the students about the Ronald McDonald House. The following Monday, the students brought in spare change to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. The FCCLA chapter had set a goal in August to raise $200 by Christmas. From the elementary alone, $212.68 was collected.
The following day, Alan Lubert, Community Outreach Manager from the Ronald McDonald House, came with our committee to some of our local businesses to talk to them about our project. After talking with them, we then left containers for customers to put change in. The chapter appreciates everyone in the community for helping with this project, especially all of the businesses that allowed us to leave one of our containers with them. The chapter also appreciates the Farmers Bank for their generous donation and the Alta Vista Baptist Church in Weatherby for bringing us 13 two-liter pop bottles full of pop tabs. So far, our chapter has raised nearly $500.
On Feb. 2, chapter members gathered in the Family and Consumer Sciences room to make chili for the Ronald McDonald House families. Members as well as chapter parents all had fun while making chili knowing that they were helping families in need. The chapter made almost 50 bowls of chili. The containers for the chili were donated by both Pamida and Lynchs. The chapter will take the chili to the families on Thursday Feb. 17 along with the collected money.
