Funeral services for Wesley Lee Jr. were held Tuesday at Stroup-Thompson Funeral Home in Winston. Burial was at Osborn at Evergreen Cemetery, with military services at the gravesite under the auspices of the Hamilton American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Alta Vista Baptist Church.

Wesley Lee Jr., 86, Weatherby, died Feb. 10, 2005, at his home.

He was born June 14, 1918, at Winston to Wesley Lee and Gertie “Hiley” Lee. He graduated from Cameron high school.

Mr. Lee Jr. served in the Army during World War II and was a POW for three years. He received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Lee Jr. was an assessor for Jefferson Township, Daviess County for several years; a farmer all his life. He was a 4-H Club leader for 15 years and secretary for many years for the Fairview Community Club.

He was united in marriage to Josephine Lawson, June 28, 1945.

Mr. Lee Jr. was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and Vick Lee; and two sisters Lila Henkel and Evelyn Dow.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Josephine Lawson Lee; one daughter, Linda Brannen, Moberly; five brothers, Robert and Betty Jane, Milwaukee, Wis., Ben and Carmen, Winston, Clair and Frances, Hamilton, Darrell and Marlene, Kidder, and Kenneth and Maxine, Winston; one sister, Marion and Roy Gunnells, Elberton, Ga.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
