Funeral services for Keith Spalding were held Tuesday at the Rupp Chapel. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside military services was conducted under the direction of the American Legion Post No. 359

Keith Alvin Spalding, 72, St. Joseph, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at his home.

Mr. Spalding was the son of William and Alva (Knorr) Spalding, and was born June 26, 1932, in rural Maysville. He attended Maysville high school.

Mr. Spalding was an Army veteran, serving his country in Korea during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge. He continued to serve in the Air National Guard at Rosecrans Air Field, retiring as a master sergeant.

On May 6, 1965, he was united in marriage to Emma Jean Adkins in Troy, Kan.

Mr. Spalding owned and operated a filling station on Sixth Street for several years, then moved to Braddyville, Iowa, and operated a station and restaurant. He then returned to St. Joseph where he worked as a mechanic at the former Gerner Oldsmobile, retiring early due to health.

Mr. Spalding was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6760 in St. Joseph, where he served three years as Quartermaster. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Spalding is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darrel and Norvelle; and a step-son, Raymond Lee Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean, of the home; one step-daughter, Nina Sue Sellars, of Dearborn; two brothers, Ocle and Delbert Spalding of St. Joseph; and one sister, Wilma Coffee of Pattonsburg.
