Time For A Transportation Bill

There is an old saying that, “Getting there is half the fun. “Whoever said that was not referring to roads and bridges in Missouri. Like many of you I’ve noticed that getting there can be the worst part of traveling. That is why it is important to Missouri that we pass a transportation re-authorization bill this year.

Last session the bill was held up by partisan squabbling. We cannot afford to let another construction season go by without re-authorizing this bill. This investment is desperately needed by Missouri roads and bridges, which have not gotten any better during the delay. This is not just a safety issue it is also a jobs issue. It is estimated that 69,200 jobs will be created by this legislation.

Missourians have been giving their federal gas taxes to the federal government only to receive 92.5 cents for every dollar it sends to Washington. The people of Missouri have paid for the roads all across the nation. It is time for the people of Missouri to receive their fair share of highway funding to fix the roads here in Missouri.

I believe that we will get a bill done and that it will put more of your money back into Missouri roads. I have fought for more gas tax money to be returned to Missouri and the Sixth District in the past. As we consider this bill, I will once again fight for you so that travel on our roads and bridges can again be fun.
