Craig Smith began work Jan. 10 as the new ag/natural resource engineer at the University of Missouri Extension Office located on the first floor of the Daviess County Courthouse.

Craig was born and raised in Haven, Kan, and graduated from its high school in 1999. He received his bachelor’s degree in ag technology management and his masters in agriculture economics from Kansas State University.

Craig spent about 10 summers of his youth working on a neighboring farm. He also helped his father with his home remodeling and construction business.

He and his wife Cari were married July of last year. They met through athletics at K-State, where Cari was on the volleyball team and Craig was in track. Cari will begin dental hygiene school in Johnson County in August and the couple live in Holt in order to split the driving difference.

“I’m new to this region and I’d love to get to know the people and the community,” said Craig. “I’d like to invite everybody to come in to visit and see what I can do to help. I’ll assist in any way I can.”
