In the last Congress I helped cut taxes as a way to grow the economy. Marginal tax rates were cut across the board so that everyone received some sort of tax break. In 2004, $25 million small businesses received relief.
Since August of 2003 when major tax relief passed, the economy has grown every single month. I believe that it will continue to grow and provide more and more good jobs to this area. While the economy has improved there is still more work to be done so that every person who wants a job can find a job.
I believe there are two reasons that cutting taxes makes sense. The first reason is because you and I are over taxed. It is your hard-earned money to begin with and the federal government should only take what it absolutely needs to function.
The second is that tax cuts help create jobs. When Missourians have more of their money to spend on goods and services, local businesses are the winners. Missourians also can use more money to invest in their own businesses or create new ones.
Taken all together the policy of cutting taxes has proven to be effective over time. Growth will continue only as long as tax relief stays in place. I will continue to push to make tax cuts permanent. You deserve to keep more of your money and it will help the economy continue to grow.
