Winston’s girls and boys polished off their December schedule with victories over Grundy County last Friday night. The WHS girls built a 19-point fourth quarter lead before settling for a 51-48 win. The Redbird boys pulled away with two minutes remaining and earned a 52-46 league victory.
The Lady Redbirds used a season-high, 20-point third quarter to cement a big lead, but the Lady Panthers charged back with 21 points in the final period. Johnna Stephen scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Redbirds. Jackie Lee added 14 for the winners.
Daniel Williams scored eight of his game-high 16 points down the stretch for Winston’s boys. Cody Lang and Justin King each tossed in 12 points for the Redbirds, who take a 6-2 overall record and 1-0 HDC mark into the Christmas break.
