The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education heard a report on the purchase over a two-year period of 74 new computers for the school during their regular meeting held Nov. 18. The computers — 34 this year and 40 next year — will be obtained through a combination of district and community funds and an allocation of grants.
Community/Parent Teacher’s Association provided $9,000 and the school provided $24,500 to purchase 34 new computers for the teaching staff and to upgrade all of their present computers. The teacher’s computers had not been kept current because of budget cuts.
Student technology will be upgraded with an 05-06 technology grant which will provide for 40 computers.
Superintendent Jim Ruse said the upgrades should meet the needs of the school for another two or three years.
The board reviewed the audit report which was presented by Kevin Hudson and approved at last month’s meeting.
The comprehensive budget and budget message was presented by Mr. Ruse. The two year comparison budget was approved. The budget message regarded the goals and objectives for the district for a one-year and a five-year range.
The School Report Card was approved for release on Dec. 1.
Bills in the amount of $262,638 were approved for payment. The ledger report was heard for year-to-date expenditures and receipts. Investments form three certificates range from 2.2% to 2.7% with 2.1 million invested at this time.

The board approved the school’s property insurance carried by CSPK. The total package in the amount of $56,477 was a 2% increase over the previous year. The insurance covers all the insurance needs for the district, except health.
Mr. Ruse reported on the repair work on the high school roof which involved a rubberize spraying of the valleys, edges and seams to insure the longevity of the roof.
New security cameras will be installed in both elementary and high school buildings.
Principal’s reported on the considerable number of students enrolling into and moving out of the district.
