Daviess County Conservation Agent Alan Bradford presented the following 2004 Deer Season totals.
Total deer taken statewide was 222,329. This is an increase of 14,813 from last year. This is also a new record. The previous record was 217,435 deer in 2002. High counties for number of deer checked statewide were Howell with 4,401; Callawy with 4,107 and Texas with 4,072.
There were seven non-fatal accidents reported in Missouri, and no fatal accidents.
In the Northwest Region total deer checked were 31,507. This is a decrease of 3,337 from last year. High counties were Chariton with 2,662; Linn with 2,419; and Carroll with 2,374.
Daviess County checked 2,366 deer. This is down 348 from last year.
Number of deer checked in surrounding counties were: Caldwell 2,155; DeKalb 1,483; Gentry 1,172; Grundy 1,556; Harrison 1,928; and Livingston 1,323.
No accidents were reported in the Northwest region.
