Valor awards were presented Monday to five law-enforcement officers from Daviess County
Sheriff Kevin Heldenbrand, chief deputy Ben Becerra, deputy Larry Todd Watson, reserve deputy Dan Bridgman, and former deputy Jerry Baldwin were among 51 Northwest Missouri law officers who were recognized by the Northwest Missouri Law Enforcement Awards for Valor Committee and KQ2.
The men were recognized for their actions on May 29 when a tornado struck Northwest Missouri, killing people and leaving a swath of destruction through several counties.
Two sheriffs, a police chief, a Missouri Department of Conservation officer, seven members of the Highway Patrol, 15 law-enforcement officers and an assistant dispatch supervisor for the Cameron Police Department were also recognized.
Their exceptional efforts during a hectic time saved lives, calmed panicked residents and restored order to several communities, said Polly Parsons, a KQ2 news reporter and emcee for the fifth annual awards for valor banquet.
