Keshia Youtsey is the winner of the International Lions Club Peace Poster Contest at the local level. The seventh grader at the Winston R-6 school was one of 15 participants at the school entering the competition. Her art teacher is Daniel Ramming
Other contestants at the Winston school were Dalton Clemons, Cody Frazier, Jacob Heldenbrand, Jared Holcomb, Bryon Lee, Davin Lucassen, Tim Mozingo, Kalesa Newman, Hunter Prentice, Rikki Rackley, Blaise Simecek, Bradly Singleton, Diamond Tucker and Aaron Williams.
Students from other schools around the world will work on art projects under the theme: “Give Peace a Chance.” The winner at the international level will win $2,500 plus a trip to New York City with two family members. While in New York the winner will receive the award at Lions Day held at the United Nations building in February or March.
This annual event is aimed at challenging our youth to think about what makes for world peace. Keshia’s presentation depicts a fountain of hope surrounded by the world’s children with peace and love symbols in the poster corners.
The Lake Viking Lions Club is sponsoring this project at the local level. Lion Gerald Cooksey is the current president of the club.
Keshia is the daughter of Tracia Smyser.
