Aaron Everly, Jacob Gardner, Kyle Hefley, Alyssa Strein and Riley Rains selected for AHEC Career Enhancement Scholars
The Northwest Missouri Area Health Education Center (NWMO AHEC) has selected Gallatin R-5 High School seniors Aaron Everly, Jacob Gardner and Kyle Hefley and sophomores Alyssa Strein and Riley Rains for the 2004-05 AHEC Career Enhancement Scholars (ACES) program. This year’s 46 student class represents 14 of the 19 counties that NWMO AHEC serves. One half the class are students returning from last year and the 23 new students were chosen from a pool of 63 applicants based on grades, application essays and recommendations, interviews and individual desire to pursue a career in primary care.
ACES receive one-on-one career planning and year-round support services in preparation for a career in primary healthcare including family medicine, internal medicine, general pediatrics, nurse practitioner, general dentist and dental hygienist.
Students have opportunities for healthcare career planning, hands on experience, shadowing opportunities, and participating in workshops providing academic enrichment geared toward health care careers. This program also gives students a competitive edge in attaining primary healthcare career goals and works toward building potential working relationships between the student and his/her home community.
