Superintendent Jim Ruse presented the 2004-2005 budget for amendment. Revenue was projected at $5,046,061 and expenses were projected at $5,226,644, which leaves a projected deficit budget of $180,583. Mr. Ruse said he was comfortable with the deficit, until school finances improve.

Bills were approved for payment in the amount of $219,809.

The ledger report was given. Investments ranged from 2.05 to 2.25.

Board policies received final readings and were approved. The website for R-5’s board policies may be found on the Internet at gallatin.k12.mo.us.

The Annual Performance Report was given for 03-04. The school received 91 out of a possible 100 points. R-5 had received a perfect score for the previous five years. Mr. Ruse said this year’s score of 91 still leaves the school in the top performance category, with all of its accomplishments intact. The school lost points on MAP testing in the third grade last year.

Mr. Ruse reported the school is still waiting on a company to provide rubberized paint for the seams on the metal roof at the high school. The paint needs to be applied before winter. Security cameras have been upgraded at the high school and added at the elementary. The cameras will run all hours of the day.

Principal’s reported 324 students enrolled in elementary and 301 at the high school for a total of 625 students. That number is down from last year’s 645 students. Mr. Ruse said the fluctuating enrollment numbers contribute to the uncertainty of school finances.

Present at the Oct. 14 regular meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education were school board members Vance Hefley, Alan Lunsford, Sandra Alden, Bill Irby, Brice Terry and Mike Ward. Clint Vanatta was absent. Also present were Linda Swopes, Mike Burrell, Chris Elbert, Kelly Warren and Sherry Croy.
