Xi Xi Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi; Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution
Xi Xi Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 4 at the home of Judy Stevens. There were eight members present. Membership, service projects, upcoming socials (Old Time Pottery on Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m. and Alpha Zeta Delta’s square dance on Nov. 6) and other chapter business was discussed. The program topic was Halloween with a trivia quiz, pinata and treats presented by Judy Stevens. Next meeting is at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 at the home of Patty Hubbard.
Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) Met Sept. 22 at the Jameson Christian Church at 12:30 p.m. for a salad luncheon with eight members and one guest, Louise Harris.
Regent Beverly Ward welcomed everyone then led opening ritual, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and the American creed. The president general’s message was read by Mary Lee Ellis.
New year books were distributed noting that they were dedicated to our past regent, Jeannie Carpenter. Regent read a letter from Grand Chapter with a consideration on dues and will be discussed further at next meeting. Letter read from state regent with discussion. The chapter voted to present an American flag that has flown over the capital in Washington, D.C., to the Daviess County Library.
The chapter bought a brick for Daviess County Veterans Walk of Honor to honor our member Evelyn Hockensmith. Fallis Froman, Beverly Ward and Lucille Bruce attended the district meeting Sept. 15 at the Oregon Methodist Church and reported to the members. Next year the district meeting will be in Chillicothe with Gallatin chapter co-hosting. The members enjoyed watching and listening to the Jameson Marching Band during the luncheon. The meeting concluded with show and tell followed by games. Next meeting will be Oct. 13 in Jameson with Louise Harris. Members meet at 1 p.m. at the parking lot behind the Christian Church on East Grand to pool rides.
