Granddaughter fatally injured when car drives in path of train; Gallatin woman seriously injured in St. Louis

Tearcyn Lewis, 17, Chillicothe, granddaughter of Ben and Janice Michael of Winston, was fatally injured in an accident on Wednesday, Sept. 29, on County Road 230, about a half mile east of Chillicothe in Livingston County, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol.

According to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol, Tearcyn was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Phillip Webb, 19, also of Chillicothe. The accident occurred as Mr. Webb was eastbound on the county road and drove into the path of a northbound train driven by Mark Traxler of Blue Springs. The 1979 General Motors Locomotive struck the 1994 Chevrolet broadside. The car went off the northeast corner of the intersection and overturned one and a fourth times before coming to rest on the passenger side. Tearcyn was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

Mr. Webb was taken by Livingston County Ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center with moderate injuries. Neither he nor Tearcyn were wearing their seat belts.

The accident was investigated by Cpl. D.P. Little, assisted by Sgt. A.O. Tourney and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

Summons is pending.

Edith “Jo” Rosseter, 84, Gallatin, received serious injuries, and Alvin Stretch, 82, Jamesport, received moderate injuries in a two vehicle accident in Jefferson County.

The accident occurred as Mr. Stretch was southbound on Veterans Drive, two-tenths of a mile off Route BB. He was attempting to cross Veterans into a private drive. The front of his vehicle was struck on the right side by a car driven eastbound by Cassandra Bradley, 16, of Cedar Hill.

Ms. Rosseter was taken to St. Johns Mercy Hospital, Creve Couer, by Arch Helicopter. Mr. Stretch was taken to St. Anthonys Hospital by Big River Ambulance. Cassandra received moderate injuries and was also taken to St. Anthonys Hospital.

The 1990 Oldsmobile 98 driven by Mr. Stretch was totaled and towed by Dittmer Towing. Cassandra’s 1995 Ford Probe received minor damage and was towed by Northwest Towing.
