The girls golf season ends in a rush for Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs as they look toward next Monday’s Grand River Conference Tournament in Bethany, and Tuesday’s district tournament in Cameron. The Lady Bulldogs are looking for their fourth straight conference title, and fifth crown in the last six years.
Gallatin Lady Bulldog golfers defeated both Stanberry and Albany last Thursday in three-way action at Daviess County Country Club. The six low scores for the day, including Emily Michener’s jayvee total, came from GHS golfers.
Senior Emily Gay saved her best performance of the season for her last home meet. Her round of 42 captured the medalist award ahead of teammate Maria Burge, who shot 44. Whitney Boyd, Taylor Henderson and Danielle Critten each shot rounds of 46 for Gallatin.
Gallatin posted a team score of 178 to easily outdistance Stanberry’s 228 and Albany’s 282.
Stanberry’s low score of 51 came from Jill Wiederholt. Chelsea Wilson shot 57 to lead Albany.
Michener’s 51 led GHS junior varsity ranks. Alecia McKee carded a 52, Stefanie Dowell added a 60, Kathryn Everly posted a 62 and Sarah Cornett added 88.
The Lady Bulldogs competed Monday in the Albany 2-Girl Best Shot Tournament. Gay and McKee teamed up to shoot 78, good enough for third place. Burge and Boyd also shot 78, good for fifth place after the scorecard tie-breaker. Henderson and Critten shot 85 and finished eighth among 32 pairs competing in the tournament.
Gallatin travels to Hamilton on Thursday before heading to Bethany for the league tournament. Because the district tournament has been scheduled for Tuesday, the GRC junior varsity tournament has been moved to Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Stanberry.
