Over 100 Daviess Countians attended the Democratic meet-the-candidates dinner last Thursday at the Lions Club Bingo Hall in Gallatin. The meeting was led by Democrat County chairman Stan Huffman who welcomed the group and led the Pledge of Allegiance. GHS student Ali Michener sang the National Anthem.

Following dinner, Phil Tate emceed the program and introduced the candidates and their representatives. Local candidates who spoke were Lance Critten, candidate for County commissioner Second District; David Cox, County commissioner First District; Jerry Baldwin, Sheriff; David McWilliams, Coroner; Vicki Corwin, Public Administrator; and Reta Rains, Treasurer/Ex-Officio Collector.

State and National candidates included Jim Whorton, incumbent State Representative who is seeking reelection and also spoke on behalf of our state and national candidates; Bill Roth who represented Charles Broomfield, U.S. Representative for the 6th District; Phil Snowden who spoke on behalf of Claire McCaskill for Governor; and Phil Tate who also spoke on behalf of state candidates Jeremiah (Jay) Nixon, Attorney General; Mark Powell, State Treasurer; Robin Carnahan, Secretary of State; Rebecca (Bekki) Cook, Lt. Governor; Nancy Farmer, U.S. Senate; and presidential candidates John Kerry and John Edwards.
