Memorial services for Debby Kilgore were held Tuesday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower. A memorial has been established in her name with the St. Joseph Humane Society.

Debby A. Kilgore, 53, Lake Viking near Gallatin, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Heartland Regional Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Kilgore was born on Feb. 19, 1951, to Gerald and Enola (Spencer) Ward in Eureka, Kan. She grew up and attended school in Preston and Dodge City, and graduated from Sterling High School. She later attended Emporia State University, where she met her future husband, Larry.

On April 23, 1981, she was united in marriage to Larry Kilgore. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph and in 1999 they moved to Lake Viking, where they made their home.

Mrs. Kilgore worked as an accounting supervisor for American Family Insurance, St. Joseph regional office for 18 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Doug Ward.

Survivors include her husband, Larry, of the home; one stepson, Brett Kilgore, Springfield; two brothers, Dick Ward, Peoria, Ariz., and David Ward, Pratt, Kan.; three brothers Jerry Hurlburt, Johnson, Kan., Tony Cheatham, McPherson, Kan., and Leonal Kilgore, Wichita, Kan.; and one stepgrandson.
