Two weeks into the girls golf season, consistency remains a strength of the 2004 Lady Bulldog program. Gallatin defeated four different Grand River Conference schools over the course of the last week while running its meet record to 4-0.
On Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs claimed their fourth individual medalist award in as many meets. Whitney Boyd shot 45 at Albany to capture the top individual honor over teammate Maria Burge, who finished runnerup with a 47. Emily Gay and Taylor Henderson each shot 48 for a third place tie. Danielle Critten’s score of 49 was fifth best of all golfers.
Gallatin’s team total, 188, easily eclipsed those of Albany (265) and King City (284). Coach Chris Elbert had these comments: “Whitney rebounded from her worst outing of the year for medalist honors. Once again our individual scores were close as our girls played pretty consistently early in the season.”
Gallatin junior varsity scores were better than varsity marks from Albany and King City. Emily Michener and Alecia McKee shot 52 and 53, respectively. Kathryn Everly carded a 61 and Stefanie Dowell added a 63.
Burge, Gay and Critten battled each other for the medalist honor at Maysville last Thursday. Burge shot 46 for low score but Gay and Critten each carded rounds of 47 to share the runnerup award. Henderson added 49 and Boyd chipped in a 50.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs were 22 shots better than the Lady Wolverines on their own course. Gallatin totaled 189 to Maysville’s 211 and Stanberry’s 218.
Kelsey Vaughn shot 48 to lead Maysville. Bailey Wolfe turned in a 50 for Stanberry.
Michener’s round of 49 led Bulldog jayvee golfers. Everly shot 52 and McKee added 55 for Gallatin.
Gallatin travels to Plattsburg on Friday for tournament action. The Gallatin Tournament tees off Tuesday morning at Daviess County Country Club.
