Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs found themselves on opposite ends of the win-loss column following a pair of close ballgames this week. The GHS girls followed up a 2-1 victory over Milan in Monday’s home opener with a 2-0 road loss to Maysville on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs, 1-2, open the home portion of their GRC schedule Thursday when they host the Princeton Lady Tigers.

Freshman Lacey Dixon, locked up in a pitcher’s duel with Maysville, surrendered only three hits, but the Lady Wolverines were able to plate lone runs in each of the second and third innings. Both scores came on GHS throwing errors. Dixon pitched a complete game and surrendered only three hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

Gallatin batters produced three hits, one from Katie Jarboe and two from Trisha Sprague, but the Lady Bulldogs could not bring a baserunner around to score.

Backed by solid defense, senior Lindsey Robertson earned a complete-game victory over Milan. Brittney Hixson drove in a run with a hit and Kelsie Parker cashed in another run for Gallatin with a sacrifice fly. Robertson, Katie Jarboe and Ayrica Batson also produced hits for the Lady Bulldogs.

“We were able to turn three double plays, two in crucial situations with runners in scoring position,” said GHS coach Jeremy Hobbs. “Kelsie threw out a pair of runners,” he added.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the season last Thursday with a 5-1 non-conference loss to Smithville. Gallatin’s lone hit came on a Kinsey Batson bunt single. Parker scored the lone GHS run in the final inning when she walked, stole a pair of bases, then came home on a wild throw. Lacey Dixon got a taste of her first varsity action on the mound, going six innings and giving up four walks while striking out seven.

“Actually, we were probably fortunate to come away with only a 5-1 loss,” Coach Hobbs said of his team’s initial contest. “They loaded the bases on us in each of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, and we got out of all of those innings in good shape except the fifth when they scored three runs,” he added.
