The case was first filed in Daviess County Circuit Court on Dec. 6, 2000, by Jason Shuler against Premium Standard Farms Inc. (PSF), for damages and breach of contract. Following a jury trial in Daviess County on June 3, 2002, in which the verdict was in favor of PSF, Shuler filed a notice of appeal on June 12, 2002.

The Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, affirmed the verdict of the Daviess County Court on Nov. 25, 2003, and the case has now been transferred to the Missouri Supreme Court.
