Daviess County Veterans Walk of Honor will be one of the highlights of the 19th annual Daviess County Chautauq
The dedication of the Daviess County Veterans Walk of Honor will be one of the highlights of the 19th annual Daviess County Chautauqua, set for Sept. 17-18-19 on the Gallatin square. The dedication of the memorial project will be held following the Chautauqua parade.
This memorial to Daviess County veterans has been undertaken by Jonathan Arnold, son of Mike and Linda Arnold of Gallatin, as his Eagle Scout project, and involves the purchase of an authentic carriage for the civil war cannon that is currently displayed on the square. A cobblestone walkway will also be constructed, in which individual veterans may be honored with an engraved brick. An order form for these bricks may be found elsewhere in this issue.
Musical entertainment slated for this year’s Chautauqua includes the Girlfriends and gospel music on Friday night and the Elsea Smith Blues Band and the Krazy Kats on Saturday night. The Gallatin Theatre League will present “Our ‘70s Show” at Courter Theatre on Saturday and Sunday.
Activities are planned throughout the day on Saturday, including games, booths and displays (muzzleloader and civil war display and art exhibit in the courthouse), and musical entertainment under the tent on the south side of the courthouse. The annual baby show and talent show are also on the schedule.
The historic squirrel cage jail will be open for tours both Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday will feature the annual flea market around the square and a “Ranch Rodeo” at Dockery Park, sponsored by the Gallatin Saddle Club.
Any clubs, organizations or individuals who wish to have a booth or concession stand on Friday night or Saturday must contact Dave Wilson at 660-663-2191 in order to obtain a spot. Flea market vendors (Sunday only) should call 660-663-2161 for information.
Additional information about the Chautauqua will be included in future issues
