13 miles south of Bethany in Daviess County
Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-35, 13 miles south of Bethany in Daviess County, at about 5:20 a.m. on Aug. 17, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred as Barry Saathoff, 44, Weatherford, Texas, was northbound on I-35. A vehicle driven by Leon Cooper, 40, St. Louis, was entering I-35 from northbound Coffey rest area. As Mr. Cooper’s vehicle entered the interstate, he was struck in the rear by Mr. Saathoff’s vehicle. Both vehicles then pulled to the shoulder.
Mr. Saathoff and a passenger in his vehicle, Randie Stewart, Weatherford, Texas, both received minor injuries. Leon Cooper also received minor injuries. They were all taken to Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany. Randie Stewart was not wearing a seat belt. Mr. Saathoff and Mr. Cooper were wearing seat belts.
The 2000 Freightliner driven by Mr. Saathoff received moderate damage and was taken to Bridgemans. The 2001 Volvo tractor trailer driven by Mr. Cooper received minor damage and was left at the scene at the driver’s request.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. Paul Kimball.
