Funeral services for Bill Landes were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the United Methodist Church in Jamesport, with arrangements by the McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Burial was at Pilot Grove #2 Cemetery near Jamesport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jamesport United Methodist Church.

William R. “Bill” Landes, 74, Jamesport, died Saturday at his home near Jamesport.

Mr. Landes was born July 8, 1930, to Linn Stewart and Mary Louis “McCray” Landes in Jamesport. He graduated from Jamesport High School in 1948.

Mr. Landes served in the Army for two years, returning back to the Jamesport area to farm.

In May of 1957, he married Twilah Edwards in Kansas City. They lived their entire married life in the Jamesport area.

Mr. Landes worked for the Standard Oil Company in Jamesport for 17 years. In 1961, after the death of his father, he owned and operated Landes Oil Company for 44 years.

Mr. Landes was a member of the Jamesport Lion’s Club, Jamesport Masonic Lodge, Moila Shrine, and the Jamesport United Methodist Church. He also served on the board of directors of the Home Exchange Bank in Jamesport.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Twilah, of the home; three sons, William Scott and Greg Stewart, both of Jamesport, and David Ray of Trenton; one sister, Rosemary Stout of Jamesport; and three grandchildren.
