5-year plan
Missouri’s proposed 5-year transportation improvement program is online for public review.
The program lists all transportation projects for fiscal years 2005 through 2009 can be viewed on www.modot.org. The formal public comment period ends Aug. 27.
Following the public review period, public comments will be presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. This commission’s review continues until the Sept. 10 meeting in Springfield.
The plan emphasizes MoDOT’s commitment to take better care of the existing transportation system. In this program, maintenance funding is scheduled to increase from an average of approximately $400 million to $430 million.
Currently, 46% of the state’s major highways are considered in good or better condition. Additional funding will allow that percentage to increase from 60% to 65% by the end of the program. Seventy-one percent of the state highway bridges are in good or better condition, and by the end of the program this should increase to 75% to 80%.
A map outlining proposed construction identifies four projects in Daviess County. During fiscal year 2005 projects on Route B, Route N, and a portion of I-35 in Daviess County are targeted for work. In 2007, Highway 6 from the Highway 13 junction east to the recently completed highway work is proposed.
Daviess County is a part of the Northwest District. Headquartered in St. Joseph and encompassing 12 counties, the Northwest District covers a land area of about 6,049 square miles and has a total population of about 193,000. The district has a total of 3,141 center line miles of state highway to maintain.
