James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission reporting several areas where culverts had been washed out by over six inches of rain during the weekend in the northern part of the county.

The commission reviewed the monthly treasurer’s report. Bills were audited and paid.
Todd Watson, deputy sheriff, met with the commission regarding property damage done in the courthouse by a prisoner. The damages were repaired over the weekend.
Danny Heldenbrand moved to close a portion of the meeting according to 610.021(1) and (3) RSMo., employee termination and possible litigation. Motion passed unanimously.
Resuming the open session, David Holcomb moved that Keith Hensen and Paule, Camazine & Blumenthal be retained to represent the commission in possible litigation. Motion passed unanimously. A Commission order will be issued.
Annette O’Brien, AFLAC, met with the commission regarding employee insurance and cafeteria plans. A proposal will be made in January 2005 for changes.
Jim Woodward, Benton Township landowner, met with the commission regarding the poor condition of roads in that township. He was told to contact the township board.
Notice was received from Harrington and Cortelyou, recommending the bid for BRO (23) be awarded to Boone Construction. This recommendation was forwarded to Missouri Department of Transportation for approval.
Reta Rains, treasurer, met with the commission reporting that a request had been made for abatement of a penalty and late charge by a property owner. Notifications had been mailed. Abatement denied.
Dan August and Mike Arnold met with the commission regarding the cannon restoration. A cobblestone base was discussed to place the cannon upon. Stones might be purchased in memory of Daviess County veterans and used as a portion of the base. Reta Rains, treasurer, was consulted and agreed to accept the funds. A motion to proceed with the plan of selling these memorial stones passed unanimously.
David Holcomb reported having found through the media of the federal declaration of Daviess County as a disaster area. The phone number to contact is 800-621-FEMA. Nothing official has been received.
