The Winston R-6 Board of Education appointed Jerry Steele as Title IX coordinator for the 2004-2005 school year during their regular meeting held in May. The board hired Brenda Pliley as sixth grade instructor; Dan Ramming as K-12 art instructor; and Kathy Henderson as
cheerleading sponsor. Chase Hiley was hired as summer custodial worker.
A residency issue was discussed and the issue will be reviewed further at the June board meeting.
During the principals report, Mrs. Bielby reported an enrollment of 19 in preschool; 114 in K-6; and an attendance rate of 95%. She informed the board that the elementary had taken 5800 Accelerated Reader Tests (ART). The tests are given after students have finished reading library books.
Mr. Michael reported an enrollment of 82 in grades 7-12; and an attendance rate of 91% for the month of April. He reviewed issues dealing with excessive absences.
The following program reports were reviewed and approved by the board: library media services; food services; and health services.
Principal Insurance was selected as the employee insurance provider for 2004-2005.The board approved purchase of a bus for next school year. The 2004-05 budget was discussed and will be presented at the June board meeting.
A letter from High School Principal David Michael was reviewed.
Next board meeting was set for June 17, 2004.
