Lanes and steps were given to certified personnel along with a $200 base raise during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Education held in April. Non-certified staff received a 2% raise.

The board hired the existing staff in elementary; tenured and probationary teachers at the high school; and support staff.

A review of the June budget showed the district’s financial situation looking better than earlier projections. The school is about at the 1999-2000 funding.

New board members were sworn in and the board reorganized. Brice Terry and Bill Irby, both incumbents, were sworn in. Board president is Vance Hefley; vice president is Brice Terry; board secretary is Linda Swopes; and treasurer is Sherry Kerns.

Superintendent Jim Ruse discussed the state report card.

Bills in the amount of $178,949 were paid as presented.

The board reviewed a copy of the ledger of year-to-date expenditures for the district.

During May’s regular meeting, the R-5 board learned that two classes ranked among the top 10 in Missouri for MAP testing for 2002-2003. Those classes were Mr. Linn’s eighth grade math and Mr. Strasser’s 10th grade math. Both math classes have been in the top 10 for the past three years.

The board considered possible items on the agenda for the summer. Those items include fencing for the playground to aid in security during the day for the children and at football games; new playground equipment; and minor improvements to the elementary building.

Chris Elbert presented the A+ results for 2003-04 and discussed a new partnership plan.

Community and advising committees will continue next school year.

Superintendent Jim Ruse reported that insurance went up 14.5% or $480 per person per year. The $317 monthly premium benefits remained the same.

Extra duty assignments were approved by the board.

Bills in the amount of $192,020 were approved for payment.
