Girl Scouts of the Midland Empire held their annual awards ceremony on April 25, to recognize girls who earned special Girl Scout awards. Girls were recognized for service, cookie sales, and for earning the top award available for their grade level – bronze, silver, or gold.
Amelia Anthuis, Katie Story, and Laura Youtsey of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 147, Gallatin, received their Silver Award, the highest award for girls in grades seven through nine. These girls learned that when children need to be removed from their homes, they are seldom able to gather personal items. The girls decided to put together 30 very special care packages for the Family Service Center to give to children they work with. The girls varied the packages according to age and gender. Then made backpacks, beanie babies, frames and glitter gel. They also purchased items and received donations from Pamida, McDonalds, and Burger King. These Girl Scouts have not only supplied children with some much-needed supplies, but also have sent them the message that their community cares for them.
Each year the council recognizes the top service projects for a troop in each Girl Scout age group and one overall outstanding service project. Among those troops recognized was Cadette Girl Scout Troop 147 of Gallatin, led by Sharon Anthius. Troop 147 received the Cadette/Senior age level service award. Troop 147 adopted a family from their community for Christmas. They planned a party for the children and their friends, which included snacks, Christmas carols,
games, crafts and a special visit from Santa. They also provided gifts for the children and Christmas dinner for the family.
Following the presentations a reception was held to honor the recipients.
