The Leadership Northwest Missouri Class of 2004 held their May meeting at North Daviess HighSchool in Jameson. Presenters for the day included Shelly Robertson and Judy Sabbert-Muck from the Heartland Foundation, a public achievement youth group, and Patt Lilly with the St.

Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce. The focus of the May meeting was education. The five sessions that were presented during the day were: Issues in Education; Skill; Modeling the Way; emPowerPlant; Public Achievement; and Life Science Institute.

Leadership Northwest Missouri brings together participants from throughout the region to hone their leadership skills, explore regional issues and gain a network of contacts throughout the

region.

The class, which first met in January, will continue through June with sessions held in various communities throughout the region. Each session includes instruction on various leadership skills, in depth examinations of various issues facing the region and hands-on experiential exercises.

Skills covered include communication, media relations, collaboration, coalition building, negotiation, and strategic planning. Some of the regional issues to be addressed are workforce development, education, economic development, infrastructure, health and the political process.
