An Eagle Court of Honor for Tim McCann was held April 18
An Eagle Court of Honor for Tim McCann was held April 18 at the Gallatin High School library. During the ceremony, a Boy Scout who has completed all the requirements, including a pre-approved project, is formally awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
Tim completed all requirements, including a board of review, in December of 2003. His project was the clean-up of the school’s outdoor classroom pond and construction of a trail around it.
The ceremony began with the presentation of the colors by Eagle Scouts Jordan Elbert, Jacob Gardner, and Daniel Pierce, followed by a procession of scouts and leaders of Troop 67. Leaders Mike Arnold and David Roll emceed the ceremony, while leader Paul Pierce summarized Tim’s path to Eagle Scout.
The “Light of the Eagle” ceremony was lead by J. D. Phipps, a former Eagle Scout and member of the Pony Express Council of Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Phipps himself was recently honored with the Silver Beaver award, the highest honor an adult can earn in scouting.
Representative Jim Whorton and his wife, Beverly, were also in attendance. Mr. Whorton spoke, and presented Tim with a framed resolution commending him from the Missouri House of Representatives.
About 40 guests attended the ceremony, including leaders and members of Troop 67 of Gallatin and Troop 167 of Winston, and Tim’s teachers, family, and friends.
In the days prior to the ceremony, Tim received a framed resolution from the Missouri Senate, sponsored by Senator David Klindt, as well as letters of commendation from: President George and Laura Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheny, former President Jimmy Carter, Senator Kit Bond, Senator James Talent, Governor Bob Holden, Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft, Secretary of Education Rod Paige, Gallatin Mayor John Thomas; Patrick Ayers, Scout Executive; Mark Woodbury, President of the Pony Express Council; Roy Williams, Chief Scout Executive of Boy Scouts of America; and Roy Roberts, President of Boy Scouts of America.
