Statewide, there was one fatal accident and eight non-fatal accidents this year. Last year there were no fatal accidents.

One of the non-fatal accidents occurred in Worth county and the other was in Daviess County.

Daviess County Conservation Agent Alan Bradford said Tim Harrell, Cameron, was struck in the face by a pellet from a shotgun at about 7 a.m. on April 21, by Onnis Newell, Cameron, who was hunting with him.

The two men had planned to hunt in separate areas in a wooded location about two miles southwest of Jamesport. Mr. Harrell changed locations without telling his hunting companion. When Mr. Newell shot at a turkey, a pellet hit Mr. Harrell. The men were about 120 yards apart in dense brush and dressed in camouflage.

Mr. Harrell was treated and released from Cameron Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

“It’s always a good idea when you make a plan to stick with it so you’ll know where your hunting companion is at,” said Agent Bradford.
