Funeral services for Jewell Carpenter, formerly of Gallatin, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Friends may call after 12 noon Friday. Burial will be

held at Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Senior Citizen’s Center.

Jewell Carpenter, 96, South Fork, Colo., died May 9, 2004, at her daughter’s home.

Mrs. Carpenter was born on July 4, 1907, to Emmett and Dora Bell (Gambel) Thomas in Wayne County, Iowa. Her childhood was spent in the Lineville and Mercer areas and near Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

On Dec. 28, 1922, she married Otis Ivan Carpenter in Mercer. The couple lived for many years in the Jamesport community before retiring to Gallatin in 1963.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Gallatin United Methodist Church, UMW in Gallatin, Stringtown Club and Kill-Kare Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ott; an infant son; two brothers, Cass and Fred Thomas; and one sister, Essie Eblen.

Survivors include one son, Lionel Carpenter; one daughter, Jeanie of South Fork, Colo.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
