Funeral services for Eben Smith, uncle of Karen Reed of Gallatin, were held on Monday, March 22, in the chapel of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte. Burial was in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s

Eben Turpin Smith, 86, died Wednesday, March 17, in James River Care Center.
Mr. Smith was born on April 5, 1917, to Leslie and Martha Smith in Blake. He grew up in Gallatin.
He married Helen Curnutt on Aug. 15, 1943, in Glendale, Ariz.
Mr. Smith served in the Air Force during World War II.
He retired in 1979 from TWA in Kansas City where he worked as a mechanic.
He was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Other survivors include his wife, Helen; one sister, Irene Minnick of Columbia; nephews, Gary Minnick and Phillip Minnick of Chillicothe; nieces, Jennalea Ferrel of Atwood, Colo., and Karla Salmon of Carlisle, Iowa.
