On Friday, April 30, Gallatin music students competed at state contest on the MU campus in Columbia. There were a total of 4,600 solos and ensembles competing over the three-day event.

In class 2A (Gallatin’s class), there were 73 woodwind events, 39 brass events, 19 percussion events, 21 piano events, and 185 vocal events.

Totals from all classes and days were 1,017 woodwind events, 566 brass events, 296 percussion events, 263 piano events, and 2,136 vocal events.

The results of Gallatin events are as follows:

I rating — Percussion Quartet – Haleigh Tague, Becky Macy, Alecia McKee and Ayrica Batson; II rating — Percussion Trio – Garett Houghton, Aaron Everly and Rick Allen; Oboe Solo – Katie Heldenbrand; Tuba Solo – Brett Wilkinson; Piano Solo – Jonathan Arnold; Vocal Solo – Rachel Peery;

III ratings — Miscellaneous Vocal Ensemble – Etsuko Abe, Melissa Craig, Katie Heldenbrand, Kendra Kelly, Allie Michener, Katie Patton, Lacy Peery and Rachel Peery; Piano Solo – Becky Macy; Clarinet Solo – Jonathan Arnold; Vocal Solo – Lacy Peery.

If you would like to hear these fine young musicians, they will be performing on Friday, May 7 at 7 p.m.. for the instrumental concert, and Wednesday, May 12 at 7 p.m. for the vocal concert.
