The Winston R-6 Board of Education certified election results from April 6 during their regular meeting held Monday, April 19. Joe Michael and Dan Bridgeman were sworn in as new board members. The board was reorganized with president – Gary Caldwell; vice-president – Chretta Mastin; secretary – Alan Ward; and treasurer – Shelly Mason.

Jake Ard was hired for K-12 music instructor and Vicky Woodward was hired for family and consumer science instructor for next school year.

Others hired for next school year are: Wayne Alexander as girl’s softball coach; Cindy Ball as custodian; and Annette Lucassen as part-time cook.

A resignation was accepted from Mr. Bland, sixth grade instructor, effective at the end of the school year.

During principal’s reports Mrs. Bielby reported 19 students in preschool; and 116 students in grades kindergarten through sixth, with a 95% attendance rate for March. Ninety-eight students signed up for summer school.

Mr. Michael reported an enrollment of 83 in grades seven through 12, and an attendance rate of 93%.

For the MSIP and CSIP reports, Mrs. Bielby stated that the faculty had an in-service on April 8 pertaining to the Annual Performance Report and how it is calculated.

Mr. Burns gave a maintenance and facility report which was reviewed and approved by the board.

The board reviewed the calendar of events.

The board went into executive session to discuss personnel and student personnel issues. The board discussed purchase of a bus for next year and adopted an amendment to the current At- Risk policy.

The board discussed school finance issues and projections for next year. They authorized the superintendent to close the account at BTC Bank and transfer to Farmers Bank.

The school received a little over $37,000 of the funding released by Gov. Holden to the schools.
